File Formats (headache alert...)

When working with a project in Audacity, you should save your work frequently.  If you choose "Save" from the File menu, the program will automatically save the file as a ".aup" file--an Audacity project file.  This is fine for working purposes, but you can't load the file in this format to your website, because only users with the Audacity program would be able to play it.

Super Duper Music Looper will save files in its own format, too.  When saving an SDML file, there's a check box in the dialog pop-up that says "save as .wav" file.  Make sure you check this box, so that you can open your music files in Audacity.

You can save .wav files to your webpages, but they are BIG files.  A much better choice is converting to mp3 files.  This is the kind of file widely used on audio devices.  Audacity can convert .wav files to mp3 for you, if it has access to an mp3 encoder.  You can find this file right on the W:drive.  The first time you use Audacity to "export as mp3"  you will be prompted to locate the file.  It's in the W:drive, in the Technology/Podcasting/Software folder.  Choose the one that says "lame_enc.dll" when you are prompted to find the file.
